What
The Authentic Self Esteem Workshop is a two-hour psychoeducational workshop offered in Portland,
Oregon, consisting of up to 12 participants and a workshop leader.
The workshop is offered free of charge to all interested adults as a community service. This class explores the
meaning of Authentic Self-Esteem, and offers points of intervention in building your personal sense of emotional and social
well-being.
The workshop is a time-limited, task-oriented
group, where members can learn and practice new behaviors to facilitate permanent change. It is not designed to provide in-depth
emotional support or individual therapy.
Who
This is a workshop for people 18 and over, who would like to experience higher self-esteem and/or greater authenticity,
to increase their personal efficacy and satisfaction with life. The group leader, Tina Gilbertson, is a mental health therapist with a master's degree in Counseling Psychology and experience leading psycho-educational groups.
How
This
is a class, not a therapy group. Procedures and techniques used in the workshop may include lecture, large- and small-group
discussion, and role play. Participants are asked to interact with
each other and with the material presented.
Why
Self-esteem
positively correlates with success, happiness and satisfying relationships. But we cannot esteem a self we don't really know,
or are afraid to share with the world. Without the resource of our whole selves, we have limited energy and ambition to lead
the life we deserve. The workshop provides a safe atmosphere to rediscover our genuine selves, and to reclaim our intention
to live the life that's meant for us.

When
The workshop is offered several times throughout the year, usually on a Sunday afternoon or else on a weekday evening. Select
this workshop on the Registration page to learn when the next session is scheduled.
Commitment
and Cost
Attending this workshop is an act of self-esteem, so if you make it through the door, you're already
doing great. It can be intimidating to go to a class where you don't know anyone. Please be assured that if you feel that
way, you'll be in good company!
The workshop is free, but registration
is required so that you can be contacted with any last-minute schedule changes. If you register and then need to cancel, please
notify me as soon as possible so that someone on the waiting list can attend in your place. You can use the Contact page to reach me, but please call instead of emailing if your cancellation is last-minute.
A Note to Those Who Prefer Self-Help
Feel free to have a look at my articles on self-esteem. I'm a featured contributor
on the topic at GoodTherapy.org, and I have two articles here on this website about Defining Self-Esteem and Raising Kids with Healthy Self-Esteem. You can learn a lot about self-esteem by reading, but ultimately you will only see changes when you make changes in your
life, actively creating something new. This will feel risky, but choose safe-enough people to try things out with and you
can get great results by working on your own.
